Biography

Arthur was born on July 19 1910 in Crystal City Manitoba, the son of Ernest Herbert Worden (deceased at age 55) and Mabel Frances Worden nee Jory of Crystal City.

He was married on December 28 1937 in Red Deer Alberta with Lily Irene Worden nee Plastow of Lacombe Alberta. Their daughters were Francis Marguerite (1938) and Lorna Elizabeth (1940) Worden. Lily remarried later as Mrs. Burgess.

He had two brothers and three sisters.

He was a farm labourer and member of the Baptist Church. He spoke English and slight French and his sports were boxing, baseball and skating and his hobby was reading.

He enlisted on July 4 1941 in Edmonton and he went on November 4 1942 thereafter overseas to the UK.

Arthur was killed in action on Wednesday May 26 1943 age 32 due to a crash near the Maas-Waalkanaal at Malden before or after an attack on Düsseldorf in Germany.

The other fallen RAF Volunteer Reserve crew members were Sgt William P. Davies age 24 in grave 5-I-4, Sgt William J. Chambers in grave 5-I-5, Sgt Christopher A. Richardson age 21 in grave 5-I-6, Sgt James C. MacPhedran age 27 in grave 5-I-3, Sgt Stanley Busby age 26 in grave 5-I-7 and Sgt Alfred Brown in grave 5-I-2.

On his headstone: THROUGH LABOUR TO REST THROUGH COMBAT TO VICTORY "UNTIL THE DAY BREAK"

He is mentioned with the other fallen crew members at a plaque in Malden.

He served with the 51 (R.A.F.) Sqdn Royal Canadian Air Force.
