"Squadron Leader Lee was one of the first pilots of the force to undertake long operational flights at night in a type of aircraft which is not ideal for the task. Later, during intensive day and night operations, he made a number of outstanding raids against difficult targets. Owing to engine failure on one night operation, he had to abandon his aircraft and, landing heavily, broke his leg. This officer has shown outstanding zeal, and deserves great credit for accepting more than his share of the more difficult night raids."
Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC)
