"For heroic service in connection with military operations in France and Belgium during the period 28 July 1944 to 21 January 1945. As a mortar gunner, his courage and efficiency under fire have been exeptional and of much benefit to his organization. During the Ardennes capaign, when his section leader was wounded, he assumed command of the section and led it brilliantly until he was wounded and had to be evacuated."
