    Captain Edward George Barton was quartermaster of 24 Canadian Field Ambulance throughout the latter part of the campaign in Holland, when his unit was almost constantly in action.
    During the spearhead drive of 5 Canadian Armoured Division from Arnhem to Harderwijk on the Zuider Zee, Captain Barton assisted greatly in coordinating a successful defence of his unit against a heavy German counter attack at Ooterloo. At the same time he helped to coordinate and expedite the evacuation of casualties from the ADS under fire.
    In the attack on the port of Delfzijl he supervised the care and initiated the evacuation of many Dutch refugees from the battle zone to safety.
    His outstanding initiative, good humour and devotion to duty were constantly reflected in the smooth functioning of his unit, the loyalty of his men and the admiration of all who knew him.
