The platoon was pinned to the ground and the tank was unable to give supporting fire bexause of the closeness of the platoon to the enemy. Showing complete disregard for his own personal safety, Lieutenant Caron dashed forward under the machine gun fire and jumped into a slit trench which was occupied bij a German Officer to march with his arms raised towards the machine gun and order his men to cease fire.
