Biography

Walburg Marius de Vries was born on February 13, 1901, the son of Arie de Vries and Neeltje Fijn. On December 16, 1929, he married Hendrika Harten. Was captain of the HMS Evertsen which ran aground near the island of Sebuku on March 1, 1942 after a battle with the Japanese navy. Was captured along with the crew and died shortly thereafter in Japanese captivity under unknown circumstances.

Aug. 17, 1925: Lieutenant-Treasurer 2nd Class;
January 29, 1935: Lieutenant-Treasurer 1st Class.

March 1, 1942 - March 25, 1942: Japanese prisoner of war.
