Biography

Norman Price was the son of James William and Ella Price of Carlton, Market Bosworth, Warwickshire. He had a younger brother, David Alfred Price, (19.11.28 - 4.11.2018) and a sister, Lucy Agnes Price, (12.2.33 - 6.7.2013).
Price was based at RAF Methwold, and was a rear gunner at 487 RNZAF Squadron in a Lockheed Ventura.

On 3 May 1943, 12 Ventura aircraft took off to take part in Operation Ramrod 16 - aimed to destroy the power station in Amsterdam. Upon take off the Ventura's, EG-Q, of Sgt A.G. Barker showed damage to the escape hatch and returned to Methwold, leaving 11 Ventura's for the bombing raid.
Price was on board of Ventura AE716 / EG-U. The total crew consisted of:
- Pilot P/O. T.J. Baynton
- Navigator F/Sgt. H.C. Lamacraft (RAF)
- WO/Ag F/Sgt. P.H.R.B. Davies (RAF)
- Air gunner Sgt. N.A. Price (RAF)

After the escorting Spitfires left due to low fuel , the 11 Ventura's were attacked by (estimated) 50-80 Me 109's and FW 190's. AE916, EG-C was the first to get hit but managed to make an emergency landing on RAF Feltwell.
The remaining 10 aircraft crashed after being shot down.

The crashsite for AE716 is located next to what is called the Amerikahavenweg in Amsterdam today.
While there were survivors of the other 9 crashed Ventura's, all 4 crew members on board Price's aircraft perished.
Norman Price is buried in Rusthof Cemetery, Amersfoort General Cemetery, with the other crew members.

In Lincoln, UK his name is on the wall containing approx 58,000 names of those who lost their lives whilst serving in Bomber Command.
