Biography

Gunner George Robert Cook
71st Lt. A.A. Regt. Royal Artillery
He belonged to the 262nd Battery of the regiment. In the early morning hours of February 8, 1945, Operation Veritable, the expulsion of German troops from the Kleve-Goch area and the Reichswald, had begun. The battery was involved in this operation.
Nothing is known about the circumstances of his death. According to unconfirmed information from his family, he was hit by a sniper and, already deceased, transferred to the Gen. de Bons barracks in Grave, along with A.J. Kirk. There he was buried in a field grave in a meadow opposite the barracks.
On May 28, 1946, he was reburied at the British War Cemetery in Uden.
