Sgt. John William
Flight Engineer, 51 Sqdn. RAF (VR)
He was a flight engineer on the Halifax bomber HR853. It was hit by flak and crashed in Malden, in a meadow in the Sluispolder, near the Maas-Waal Canal.
The entire crew of seven was killed. The flight's target was Düsseldorf (Germany).
They were buried as unknowns on May 27, 1943, in the Municipal War Cemetery on Burgemeester Buskensstraat in Uden and identified after the war. Along with the crew of another bomber, they were among the first to be buried in this cemetery.
