He was the pilot of the Halifax bomber HR853. It was hit by flak and crashed in a meadow in the Sluispolder near the Maas-Waal Canal at Malden. The entire crew was killed.
The destination of the flight was Düsseldorf (Germany).
He was buried as an unknown individual on May 27, 1943, at the Municipal War Cemetery in Uden and identified after the war.
They, along with the crew of another bomber, were among the first to be buried at this cemetery.
