Biography

Private John Howard Beebee
2nd Bn. The Gloucestershire Regiment, 59th Infantry Brigade, 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division
Killed in action during Operation 'Quick Anger', the liberation of Arnhem and then Veluwe-area out of the sector Westervoort/Duiven.
He was already enlisted om 8-12-1943 and until January 1945 served in The Green Howards.
Together with some comrades he was on 15-4-1945 on a day patrol near the bridge over the IJssel-river (west side); there the patrol came under German mortar fire and John was hit in the neck with a piece of shrapnel and instantaneously died.
He was temporarily buried at 'IJsseloord', in the garden/orchard of the sisters convent, near the RC girls-school at Westervoort.
On 28-8-1946 he was reburied by the 55th Graves Concentration Unit of the British army at the British War Cemetery Uden.
