He was the pilot of a B-17F bomber (Flying Fortress, serial no. SR382), which was shot down by a German night fighter on 22 June 1944. The American aircraft with an RAF crew crashed at approximately 1:15 a.m. on the Aaldert, 2 km northwest of Bergharen.
The target of the mission was Wesseling/Scholven-Buer, Gelsenkirchen (Germany), to disrupt German radio communications and radar equipment.
He was killed.
