Sgt. John Robert Coulsey
Wireless Operator/Air Gunner
49 Sqdn. RAF (VR)
He was the flight operator/air gunner of Lancaster bomber ED434. It was shot down by a German night fighter of I./NJG I from Venlo during a bombing mission to Oberhausen (Germany). The aircraft crashed in Dodewaard on the northern bank of the Waal River on Kromstraat, opposite the Vink Cannery.
Five members of the seven-man crew were killed.
He was buried as an unknown individual on June 16, 1943, at the Uden Municipal War Cemetery, along with: W.L. Chatfield, V. Horsley, P.A. Toms, and A.E. Whittaker.
He was identified in May 1944.
