He was the flight operator/air gunner of Wellington bomber Z8409 PH-H. Returning from a bombing raid on the Krupp factories in Essen, Germany, it was shot down by a German night fighter and crashed into a duck decoy in Dreumel.
Five of the six crew members were killed.
He was buried on March 11, 1942, in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Peter's Church in Uden.
He was reburied on June 21, 1946, at the British War Cemetery in Uden.
