Biography

Flt. Sgt. John Richard Davies
Observer RAF (VR) No. 218 Squadron RAF
He was a member of the crew of the Stirling bomber BF315 HA-F that was shot down by Hauptmann Streib from the German air base in Venlo on the night of 28 August 1942 and crashed southwest of Elst in the hamlet of Eimeren.
The target of the flight was Kassel (Germany).
The following were killed with him:
Pilot Officer J.A. Gruber, Pilot RAF (VR)
Flt. Sgt. L.J. Lawler, W.Op./Air Gunner RAF
Sgt. J.B. Wilkes, Flt. Engineer RAF
Flt. Sgt. B.A. Wolstencroft, W. Op./Air Gunner RAF

As unknown individuals, they were buried on August 29, 1942, in three columns in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Peter's Church in Uden. The names Davies, Gruber, and Wolstencroft were subsequently added.
In September 1946, he was transferred to the current cemetery, Gruber in a separate grave, the others in a shared grave.
