    Rank:
    Private
    Unit:
3rd Battalion, 1st Parachute Brigade, 46th Infantry Division, British Army
    Awarded on:
    September 23rd, 1943
    Recommendation:
"For most conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the high ground North of DJEBEL DEBRA 0668 (Tunesia sheet 10) night 27/28 Mar 43.
As a result of casualties this private soldier was in command of a section and his section, which was sadly depleted, took the brunt of the Witzig counter attack.
His leadership and courage were an inspiration and by continually running from man to man encouraging them and giving them fire orders they beat off a heavy attack by some of the finest German troops.
This soldier has commanded his section for weeks and has during that period shown himself to be an inspired leader in action."
