He was the gunner of the Lancaster bomber DV280 JO-S. It was shot down by a night fighter during a mission against targets in Wesseling/Scholven-Buer (Germany) and crashed in the 'De Meer' polder between Macharen and Berchem. Seven of the eight crew members were killed. Six of them were buried in Uden and one in Maasbommel (H.F. Raynham).
He was buried on June 24, 1944, at the Municipal War Cemetery in Uden.
