Biography

Fus. Alfred Gatenby
6th Bn. The Royal Welch Fusiliers
He was reportedly seriously wounded in the area around Elst (Noord-Brabant) while his unit was stationed there for several days. He was believed to have died when his unit returned to Sint-Oedenrode. Or he was transferred to a battalion/division hospital in the Sint-Oedenrode/Schijndel area and died there.
He was buried in a field grave on the Schijndel heath, to the left of the Sint-Oedenrode - Schijndel road, towards Holland.
He was reburied on 19 July 1946 at the British War Cemetery in Uden.
