Biography

Lance Corporal Edward James Hawes
43rd (2/5th Bn. The Gloucestershire Regt.) Regt.
Reconnaissance Corps R.A.C.
He was the driver of a reconnaissance vehicle and was seriously wounded on the dyke between Opheusden and the Opheusden ferry when the vehicle was hit by German anti-tank artillery.
He died from his injuries and was temporarily buried at the old town hall in Opheusden.
He was reburied on 14 August 1946 at the British War Cemetery in Uden.
