Biography

Flt. Sgt. Gilbert Carrington Keats
Pilot RAAF, No. 12 Squadron RAF
He was the pilot of the Wellington Mk.II bomber Z8585 PH-W, which was shot down on the night of August 7, 1942, by a night fighter from the German air base in Venlo (I./NJG.1). He crashed at approximately 02:55 near the Coppens family farm on Hoevestraat/Oude Baan in Rosmalen.
The target of the mission was Duisburg (Germany).
The following were killed with him:
Sgt. B.J. Miller, Air Gunner RAF (VR)
P/O H. Shaw, Observer RAF (VR)
Sgt. P.M. Spence, W. Op. / Air Gunner RAF (VR)
Sgt. D.E. Williams, Air Gunner RAF (VR)
He was buried on August 7, 1942, in the rectory garden of St. Peter's Church in Uden. Miller, Spencer, and Williams were buried as ‘unknowns’.
He was reburied in September 1946 at the British War Cemetery in Uden.
