Biography

Sergeant Alfred Perry Larson
W. Op. / Air Gunner, no. 424 Squadron RCAF
He was the radio operator/air gunner of the Wellington bomber BK348 QB-J, which crashed in the centre of Echteld for unknown reasons on its way back from a mission to Essen (Germany).
The aircraft landed partly on a house, killing a resident and her young daughter. The aircraft was completely burned out and only the tail section remained above ground. The entire crew of five must have been killed.
It was not until 22 March 1943 that the remains were buried in a single coffin in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Petrus Church in Uden,
with two names of crew members mentioned (Cory and Topping), which were probably only found when clearing the wreckage of the bomber. On 9 July 1946, they were transferred to the current cemetery, the communal grave,
where the entire crew was registered as having perished and mentioned on the gravestones.
The Province of Saskatchewan in Canada named a lake after him, “Larson Lake”.
