Biography

Sgt. Dennis Rodney Manser
Air Gunner RAF (VR), No. 207 Squadron RAF
He was a gunner on Lancaster bomber R5761 EM-T. On the return flight from a failed bombing mission to Essen (Germany), the plane was shot down by a German night fighter and crashed on farmland called ‘Meijersakker’ in Alttorst. The seven-man crew were killed. Four of them were buried on August 7, 1942, in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Petrus Church in Uden. Three members of the crew were buried there on August 13, 1942.
Manser was initially buried as an unknown soldier and later (August 1943) identified.
He was reburied on July 2, 1946, at the British War Cemetery in Uden.

Manser's brother, Ralph, was a lance corporal in the 7th Royal Tank Regiment. He was killed in action in Germany on April 30, 1945, as commander of a tank. He was 24 years old and is buried at the Beklingen War Cemetery in Soltau (Germany).
