Biography

F/O John Dugald McBride
Wireless Operator / Air Gunner RCAF
No. 408 (Goose) Squadron RCAF
He was the radio operator on Halifax bomber JB866 EQ-T. On its way to a bombing raid on Essen (Germany), it was shot down by a German night fighter from L/NJG (Venlo) and crashed in an orchard on Tielsestraat in Opheusden. All seven crew members were killed.
He was buried on April 5, 1943, in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Peter's Church in Uden.
The province of Saskatchewan in Canada named a bay after him, “McBride Bay.”
