Biography

Flt. Sgt. George Orr
214 Squadron RAF (VR)
He was the navigator of a B-17 (Flying Fortress) bomber SR382 BU-B. During an RCM mission (disrupting German air defenses) for a bombardment of oil installations in Gelsenkirchen-Buer (Germany), he was shot down by a night fighter of NJG 3 and crashed in Bergharen, in the hamlet of De Aaldert. Five of the nine-man crew were killed. Four of them were buried in Uden, and Sergeant N.W.S. Abbott, air gunner, was found on July 1, 1944, during the clearing of the wreckage.
Orr was buried as an unknown person on June 14, 1944, in the municipal War Cemetery on Burg. Buskensstraat in Uden and identified after the war.
