Biography

Guardsman Douglas Arthur Rawson
2nd Bn. Grendadier Guards
Killed during Operation Market Garden at the intersection of the 's-Hertogenbosch-Grave highway and the Nistelrode-Oss road, near Heesch, when his Honey reconnaissance tank was knocked out by a German anti-tank gun in the early evening. H. Robinson was killed with him. The tank wreck, containing the two bodies, was towed to Uden the following night and left in a meadow on the Vaaldriessen, approximately where Accordeonstraat is now.
The two fallen soldiers were not recovered from the wreckage until October 3, 1944, and buried in the Uden Municipal War Cemetery.
