Biography

Flt. Sgt. Bertram Arthur Wolstencroft
W. Op. / Air Gunner RAF
No. 218 Squadron RAF
He was a member of the crew of the Stirling bomber BF315 H-F, which was shot down on 28 August 1942 by Hauptmann Streib from the German air base in Venlo. The aircraft crashed in Elst.
The following were killed with him:
Flt. Sgt. J.R. Davies, Observer RAF
P/o J.A. Gruber, Pilot RAF
Flt. Sgt. L.J. Lawler, W. Op. / Air Gunner RAF
Sgt. J.B. Wilkes, Flight Engineer
Under the names Davies, Gruber and Wolstencroft, three crew members were buried on 29 August 1942 in the rectory garden next to the Roman Catholic St. Petrus Church in Uden. There is no record of the other two in the burial register.
In the summer of 1946, they were reburied at the British War Cemetery on Burgemeester Buskensstraat.
Sgt. Green and Sgt. Harding were taken prisoner of war.
