"On the afternoon of 16 December 1941 this N.C.O. was in command of a Breda Car attached to a Troop in contact with the enemy in the GAZALA Area. Although being heavily shelled he pushed on and succeeded in "shooting up" an enemy O.P. and forcing the enemy to evacuate it. At the same time he put out of action an enemy A.F.V. which was being used as an O.P. This materially helped our advance. Shortly afterwards his car received two direct hits from an A/Tk Gun. One of his crew was killed and the other wounded. His car was put out of action. Cpl. Owen got the wounded man out of the car and lay in the scrub whilst being machine-gunned. He was picked up next morning by our own troops."
