Flying Officer RAFVR, 51 Squadron RAF.

Flying Officer Raymond George Harris was the pilot of the Handley Page Halifax BB244 MH-Q, which took off from RAF Snaith on the evening of 29 March 1943. After attacking Berlin, the aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter on its way back. The Halifax crashed at around 0.3:47 near the Veldslagweg in Vorden, killing all six crew members. One crew member, Sergeant Ernest Williams, was taken prisoner of war.

Flying Officer Harris and the other crew members who were killed are buried in the general cemetery in Vorden.

Omkijkpunt published the book “De 20 geallieerde gezichten van Vorden” (The 20 Allied Faces of Vorden). This book tells the stories of the 20 Allied soldiers buried in Vorden, including that of Raymond Harris.
