Flight Sergeant, RAFVR, 51 Squadron RAF, son of Henry Heptonstall and Edith Emma Heptonstall-Barker. 
Flight Sergeant Albert Heptonstall was one of the gunners on board the Handley Page Halifax BB244 MH-Q, which took off from RAF Snaith on the evening of 29 March 1943. After attacking Berlin, the aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter on its way back. The Halifax crashed at around 0.3:47 near the Hilverinkweg in Vorden, killing all six crew members. One crew member, Sergeant Eric Williams, was taken prisoner of war.
Flight Sergeant Haptonstall and the other crew members who were killed are buried in the general cemetery in Vorden.
