Biography

Sergeant, 156 Squadron RAF. Son of Arthur and Martha Lillian Malin of Wigston, Leicestershire. Husband of Betty Malin of Wigston.

Sergeant Malin was the pilot of the Vickers Wellington DV715 GT-V, which took off from RAF Alconbury at 23:55 on 30 May 1944. The aircraft, one of the Pathfinders, was shot down by a German night fighter on its return from an attack on Cologne in Germany. The Wellington crashed in flames near Linde (Vorden), killing the entire five-man crew. Sergeant Malin and the rest of the crew are buried in the general cemetery in Vorden.

In 2022, a monument was unveiled at the crash site. His name appears on the Roll of Honour of his former school. After the demolition of the Gateway School, this monument was moved to The Newarke Houses in Leicester. In 2022, Omkijkpunt published the book “De 20 geallieerde gezichten van Vorden” (The 20 Allied Faces of Vorden). This book tells the stories of the 20 Allied soldiers buried in Vorden, including that of Peter Malin.
