Sergeant RAFVR, 156 Squadron RAF. Son of Robert and Hilda Peel from Chorley Lancashire
Sergeant Peel was the radio operator/air gunner of the Vickers Wellington DV715 GT-V, which took off from RAF Alconbury at 23:55 on 30 May 1944. The aircraft, one of the Pathfinders, was shot down by a German night fighter on its return from an attack on Cologne in Germany. The Wellington crashed in flames near Linde (Vorden), killing all five crew members. Sergeant Peel and the rest of the crew are buried in the general cemetery in Vorden.
In 2022, a monument was unveiled at the crash site.
