Biography

Son of James Samuel and Caroline Maud Hodgson. Pilot Officer, Pilot Vickers Wellington HE545 AS-H, RAF 166 Squadron.

Killed in action after his aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter during a mission to Bochum and crashed near Schaarsbergen. James “Bob” Hodgson is buried at the Moscowa Cemetery in Arnhem. The inscription on his gravestone reads: “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS”.
