Biography

Percy Edgar Pigeon was born on 3 June 1917 in Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada. His family ran a small ranch, and after school, he worked in a general store.

Trained as a wireless operator/air gunner in Canada, he headed to England in late 1942 and completed two Wellington operations before moving to heavy bomber training. In December, Pigeon joined 97 Squadron at Woodhall Spa, and between January and March 1943, Pigeon flew 20 operations. He later transferred to Scampton as part of a new squadron.

Post-Dams Raid, his next mission targeted an Italian power station, with a refueling stop at Blida, Algeria. Pigeon earned a commission in September 1943 and, between November 1943 and July 1944, participated in 30 more missions, earning a Distinguished Flying Cross. He later joined a training unit before returning to Canada in December 1944.

Remaining in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) post-war, Pigeon served in Maritime Air Command and retired as a Flight Lieutenant in 1962.

Pigeon passed away on 23 March 1967 in Williams Lake and is buried in the local cemetery.
