Biography

Son of Hérminie and Yvonne Periard of Alexandria, Ontario. Enlisted on 5 July 1940 in Cornwall Ontario. Corporal with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders, R.C.I.C. Killed at the age of 25 while on patrol near the Looër Enkweg in the hamlet of Leesten, now Zutphen/Warnsveld. Aimé Periard was temporarily buried in a cemetery in Vierakker and later reburied in the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. The inscription on his headstone reads: 'ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE LOST CAN TELL THE PAIN OF PARTING WITHOUT FAREWELL'.
