Son of Clarence Melville Matthews and Josephine Olthoff-Matthews. Navigator of B-24 42-63969 of USAAF 93 Bomb Group 409 Bomb Sqdn. Shot down on the way back from a mission to Osnabruck off the coast of Workum on the IJsselmeer (Netherlands). Missing since 22 December 1943. Distinguished with an Air Medal and Purple Heart. His name appears on the Wall of Missing Margraten.
