Biography

An Unteroffizier and Bordschütze (Air Gunner) of Staffel 8, Kampfgeschwader 76, died when his Ju88A-5 (wn:5168; F1+BS) was shot down during a mission over Birmingham and crashed near Scampton aerodrome, killing all crew members. Among the victims were Pilot Leutnant Kurt Hanning, Observer Gefreiter Helmut Wimmeder, Wireless Operator Gefreiter Johannes Dietrich, and ground crew member Gefreiter EH Reidel, who was aboard unofficially.

His passing was marked by full military honors. Witnesses described the plane breaking apart midair and crashing, with a farmer's wife comforting the pilot in his final moments.

Married to Ruth Margot Trojahn in December 1940, just months before his death. His family—parents and sister—survived the war.
