Biography

UnteroffizierAlfred Altenkirch, born on 20 September 1924 in Bergeow, was killed in action on 4 March 1945.

He took off from Lübeck/Blankensee during "Operation Gisela," an intruder mission targeting British bomber airfields. While attacking a car driven by Observer Corps official Jack Perotti Kelway, his aircraft struck telegraph wires and crashed onto the car. Both the aircraft and the car were destroyed, with debris scattered across a wide area. Kelway became the only Observer Corps member killed on duty during the war.
