Biography

Feldwebel (Flight Sergeant) Heinrich Conze, born on 20 January 1920 in Essen, died on 4 March 1945 during "Operation Gisela," an intruder mission over British bomber airfields. While attacking a car driven by Observer Corps official J.P. Kelway, his aircraft struck telegraph wires and crashed onto the car. Both the plane and car were destroyed, with debris scattered widely. Kelway became the only Observer Corps member killed on duty during the war.
