Biography

Son of John Alexander Catto and Pearl Wilhelmina Catto (nee Hellier), Otikerama, Southland. Killed on 1-9-1944 during a mission to Abbeville in which their Mitchell bomber was hit by German anti-aircraft fire and crashed. Initially the entire crew was listed as missing, but two crew members appeared to have managed to save themselves and were taken to safety by the French resistance. Stuart Catto and his fellow crew member James Eagleson (RCAF) are both buried in Bezingham cemetery in France.
