Biography

William Mills trained in Portsmouth as part of the elite Royal Marines Boom Patrol Detachment (RMBPD). He took part in Operation Frankton in December 1942. During this mission, Mills was deployed from the submarine HMS Tuna and paddled a two-man canoe called the Crayfish with Albert Laver. They were arrested and executed by the SD during an attempted escape. The remains of both marines are missing. For this reason, they are commemorated on the Marine Memorial in Plymouth.
