Biography

Fred Goatley, a retired Saunders-Roe designer and expert in collapsible boat building, joined the SBS as a consultant and worked with Major Hasler's team on the design of special canoes (the Cockleshell canoe) for use during Operation Frankton.

Fred also designed a 12ft 4inch folding assault boat in 1937, which was widely used during the Second World War.
