Franciscus was born on 24 December 1926 in Teteringen and lived in Ginneken. As a conscript, he was called up for military service in 1947 and assigned as a soldier to the 4th Battalion of the Princess Irene Guard Regiment, which had been established in Arnhem.
Due to the outbreak of revolutionary violence in the Indonesian struggle for independence, Franciscus was sent to the Dutch East Indies to help restore peace and Dutch authority. After several months of training, he left for the East in June 1947 on the Tabinta, arriving in Semarang a month later.
During the First Police Action from 24 July to 4 August 1947, Franciscus and his unit were involved in fierce fighting and the occupation of various places east of Semarang. After the Action, he was stationed in this area for patrol and guard duty. From 13 September, he served in the outskirts of Surabaya.
On 12 October 1947, Franciscus was killed in Surabaya. He may have been the victim of renewed enemy action, but a fatal accident cannot be ruled out. He was 20 years old and was laid to rest at the Dutch military cemetery Kembang Kuning in Surabaya.
