Conscripted soldier 1st class, Staff Company, 5th Battalion, Princess Irene Guard Regiment. Most likely enlisted at the Menno van Coehoorn Barracks in Arnhem and departed from Rotterdam on 26 November 1947 aboard the MS. Kota-Inten from Rotterdam and arrived in Padang, Sumatra, on 23 December of that year.

Killed in action on 5 April 1949 in the vicinity of Solok.

Anne van Houten was initially buried in Solok and later transferred to the military cemetery in Padang. In 1962, he was reburied at the Leuwigajah military cemetery in Cimahi (Bandung).
