Biography

Conscript soldier, 4th Company, 5th Battalion, Princess Irene Guard Regiment. Student in Wageningen. Most likely enlisted at the Menno van Coehoorn Barracks in Arnhem and departed from Rotterdam on 26 November 1947 on the MS. Kota-Inten from Rotterdam and arrived in Padang, Sumatra, on 23 December of that year.

Killed in an accident with a submachine gun at the Soengei Beramas post. He was the first member of the battalion to be killed in action.

Frits Penters is buried in the military cemetery in Padang (Sumatra). This cemetery had to be closed in 1962 by order of the Indonesian government, and he was reburied in the Leuwigajah military cemetery in Cimahi (Bandung). His name appears on the Indies Monument on Nudestraat in Wageningen.
