Engelbertus Lucas was born on May 30th, 1785 as the son to Engelbertus Lucas sr. Senior was a Naval officer with the Admiraliteit van Rotterdam.

1808: Luitenant-ter-zee 2e Klasse;
1814: Luitenant-ter-zee 1e Klasse;

January 1st, 1844: Vice-admiraal;
June 1st, 1865: Luitenant-admiraal.

1795: Kadettenkorps, Bataafse Marine;
1827: Commanding Officer, Zr. Ms. De Zeeuw;
1833: Commanding Officer Bath squadron;
August 1st, 1838 - March 1st, 1842: Commanding Officer Naval Forces in the Dutch East Indies / Inspector of the Colonial Navy;
October 1st, 1843: Director/Commanding Officer, Director of Navy, Vlissingen;
November 1st, 1849: Minister of Navy;
