Born on October 11, 1913, in Friesland, the daughter of Geert Jansma and Tetje Klos, her childhood was marked by frequent moves due to her father's work as a clerk, a municipal civil servant. At the age of six, she lost her mother in Haaksbergen.
After completing her teacher training, Jansma initially found no work and trained as a nurse. Eventually, she did find a job at the "De Gortershoek" primary school in Zaandijk. There, she lived with the Rijpstra family and helped care for Jewish people in hiding.
She later moved to Amsterdam, where she managed to hide twelve Jewish people on the fourth floor of the Nieuwe Prinsengracht canal. During the Hunger Winter, a contaminated eel was eaten, leading to a typhus epidemic among the people in hiding. Jansma herself became infected and died within a week. She was buried at the General Cemetery in Bloemendaal.
