Biography

Karel Vermaas was together with Henk Wissink (both living in the village of Doornenburg) hired to work on the defences between Rhenen and Veenendaal. When war broke out on May 10th, 1940, they tried to return to Doornenburg. Near Kesteren they were halted by Dutch military. Beceause they were not able to give a believable story, the were executed on the spot on May 12th, 1940.
