Biography

Robert Ernest O'Heare, son of Edward and Josephine O'Heare from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Wireless Operator/Air Gunner Handley Page Halifax HX279 ZL-ZL RCAF 427 “Lion” Squadron.

Killed in action at the age of 22 on 18 March 1944 after his aircraft was shot down by a German night fighter near Trier during a mission from RAF Leeming to Frankfurt. Five of the seven crew members were killed in the crash. They were initially buried in Trier and later reburied in a communal grave at Choloy War Cemetery.

The inscription on his gravestone reads: “MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE”
