Biography

The dear departed was born in Füchtorf on 7 October 1918. In November 1938, he was called up for labour service, joined the military on 23 November 1939 and received his training in Iserlohn. In the spring of 1940, he was deployed to Holland, Belgium and France, where he was wounded in the Argon Forest. After his recovery, he was sent to Poland and from there to Kuban, where he fought on the front line. On 13 November 1943, during heavy fighting northeast of Kerch, he died a heroic death. He died believing in God and his Saviour as a faithful son of his Catholic Church. At the age of 25, he gave his young life back into the hands of his Creator. His always helpful, sincere nature and loyal comradeship earned him great popularity in his regiment. May the benevolent Father in Heaven reward him for his duty and loyalty with eternal blessings. His and our hope for a speedy reunion was not fulfilled.
