Biography

Sergeant Abraham Opoczynski, a Jewish refugee from Poland, joined the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment in Kent. For security reasons, he was ordered to change his name to Adam Orr. Later, he was recruited for the Small Scale Raiding Force (SSRF), with which he took part in the failed Operation Aquatint.

Initially, he managed to escape, but three days later he encountered a German paratrooper unit and was taken prisoner. He was registered in Rennes and transported by train to Germany. From that point on, all traces of him disappeared.

Post-war research later revealed that he died on April 12, 1945. His grave is in the military cemetery in Dürnbach. How he ended up there remains uncertain. The book "If I Must Die" explores several possible scenarios.
